About Me

I am an Assistant Professor of Mathematics at Belmont University in Nashville, having recently graduated from Oklahoma State University, where I studied for a Ph.D. in mathematics with a specialization in the field of algebraic geometry. Before moving to Oklahoma, I studied at Montclair State University in New Jersey, where I received both my bachelor’s and master’s degrees in Pure & Applied Mathematics.

I grew up on the east coast, having spent my early years in Connecticut and my later school years (including college) in New Jersey. Even as a young child, I’ve always loved patterns and numbers, something that has developed in me a passion for all of math.

Growing up, I learned to be a leader among my friends, and later on those leadership qualities led me to take on the roles of teacher, tutor, mentor, and instructor in different areas of my life. I taught martial arts for five years — there is something uniquely challenging about trying to help a six-year-old learn the finer points of motor control and muscle memory. I also have an insatiable curiosity about the world around me, and I have a heart for helping, serving, and improving the lives of people in my life!

Most of my professional goals can be grouped into two categories: research and teaching. My research continues to be in the field of algebraic geometry — I aim to understand and improve upon the results of those who have come before me. I also work with undergraduate students on various projects in some nearby fields. I am always happy to talk about the details of my work, and you might be surprised at how interesting mathematics research can be!

I also love teaching. I feel immense satisfaction in breaking down complex ideas and communicating them effectively to others. More than that, I love offering new perspectives and experiences to students who dislike math based on their past experiences — helping to change their mindset, inspiring them to grow and change, and showing them their abilities and potential in a more positive light.

I have taught college-level math for over eight years in a variety of settings, including a community college, an R1 institution, and a small liberal arts college. My collegiate teaching experience ranges from lower-level math courses like pre-algebra, all the way through Calculus I, II, III, and Linear Algebra. I have also tutored math students for 8 years at all levels, and I taught high school math for a homeschool coalition for two years.

Some of my interests:

  • I am an avid board gamer, with a preference for resource-based strategy games and/or social deduction games.

  • I love a hot cup of well-made coffee, chill music, and quiet evenings spent alone or with friends and family.

  • I also love learning new things; I thrive in a room where someone is talking about something they’re passionate about because I can’t help but develop a similar interest!

  • I love playing volleyball, whenever there’s a pickup game happening, whether it’s sand, court, or grass, I’m there!

I value community involvement, so I regularly attend a local church and volunteer. A large part of my worldview involves positively impacting those around me, so I’m always looking for opportunities to do just that! I also love meeting new people and learning from them, so please feel free to reach out to me and introduce yourself—I’m always happy to chat!
